Our Audiences
The P-12 Project builds a community of educators in Ohio including teachers, principals and administrators, university faculty, students of all ages, family members, and community agency representatives. From research to practice, and from tutoring and mentoring to community development, P-12 is the bridge between the Ohio State community and the P-12 community.
Regardless of your role, you can contribute to or benefit from the community through the P-12 Project. Please visit the following links to see some of the ways that you can get involved.
Ohio State Faculty/Staff
- Post and update your school partnership activities in the database.
- Teach a service-learning course with a community service component in the schools.
- Share your expertise by bringing your knowledge and passion to a neighborhood school via a workshop, program, or as a volunteer tutor or mentor. Contact the P-12 Project to get connected with schools.
- Share your partnership successes in our School Partnerships publication
- Search for volunteer opportunities on Community Connection or discuss your ideas with the P-12 Project.
- Connect your students with the community through volunteer opportunities posted on Community Connection.
Ohio State Students
- Volunteer to be a tutor or mentor or to help with after-school activities posted on Community Connection or connect with the Buckeye Mentoring Hub.
- Take a service-learning course.
- Get your student organization involved in mentoring or tutoring by contacting the Center for Student Leadership and Service.
- Learn more about volunteer resources and other OSU service opportunities such as work-study.
Volunteers
Throughout the state, public schools are in need of volunteers, tutors, and mentors to support their after-school programs and increase academic achievement. Whether you are a P-12 educator, Ohio State faculty/staff member, or student, you can contribute to the P-12 Project’s efforts to assist in the improvement of Ohio’s schools. The P-12 project develops partnerships with schools and works in collaboration with the following initiatives to address the volunteer needs of schools and students:
- Community Connection is a web-based volunteer matching service to assist with the recruitment, training, placement, and support of students as volunteers in the local neighborhood communities.
- The Service-Learning Initiative at Ohio State leads efforts to integrate service-learning across the curricula of the seventeen colleges of the university while improving the success of P-12 education, community-based organizations and service agencies in meeting the needs of university district residents. - The Center for Student Leadership and Service in the Office of Student Life can connect students to campus-wide service opportunities.
Schools
Teachers, Principals, Counselors, and School Representatives
- Bring OSU student volunteers to your school using Community Connection.
- Consult the Teacher Guide for Volunteers in the Classroom: web modules; PDF version
- Search the database for OSU programs, projects, opportunities, and information relevant to educators.
- Stay in touch by checking the P-12 website on a regular basis and signing up for our listserv. We send occasional e-mails about upcoming events and opportunities.
- Explore the resources of the Principal's Office website.
- Help your students get to college. The Office of Economic Access has resources for teachers and counselors.
- Host a service-learning course at your school. Service-learning links experiences in schools with university courses to give OSU students real-world exposure to academic learning. Contact the Service-Learning Initiative for more information.

Community
Parents, Students, PTA/PTO, and Community Members
